It's so. Download the kindle app from the iTunes Store and away you go.

Hulababy · 28/12/2012 21:05

Kindle app and you link to your amazon account.

Fine for indoor, though smaller - screen not great for reading outside in sun. etc because of the glass glare.

FarelyKnuts · 28/12/2012 21:05

Its so. Kindle app. Will sync with any kindle plus computer etc and open to read on where you are up to. Tis vair handy.

OodKingWenceslas · 28/12/2012 21:07

You can get books from apple too.

noblegiraffe · 28/12/2012 21:08

I like the iBooks app better than the kindle app for reading books. It looks like real pages turning!

ShakySingsMerryXmasEveryone · 28/12/2012 21:09

Yes, get the kindle app and then download your books from amazon. There are loads of free ones.

ShakySingsMerryXmasEveryone · 28/12/2012 21:27

I've just been on the kindle amazon site and they have lots of books for 20p. I downloaded 6. Will probably never read them as I am always reading on here Blush

MacaroniAndWalnut · 28/12/2012 21:28

Gulp

Wow

Ywp, there's a kindle app. Probably other e-reader type apps too.

Because of the backlit screen I find I prefer to put the text into white-on-black as it's less of a strain on the eyes.

MacaroniAndWalnut · 28/12/2012 21:31

So to find books I go via the app rather than via amazon?

OP posts:
MacaroniAndWalnut · 28/12/2012 21:33

Sorry I'm being thick. It's the excitement

I've downloaded the app

Now where's the books?

OP posts:
MacaroniAndWalnut · 28/12/2012 21:33

Ah I see. It clearly says on that link

Thanks ouryve

It's more of an emergency reading thing for me - the screen's so small. But I have used it in extremis and it works ok. Wouldn't use it all the time though. I have my kindle account on it, and 100 classics, which will get you through most things and are free

MacaroniAndWalnut · 28/12/2012 21:36

So you get the books via amazon

But not the amazon app

You have to go to amazon in your safari thing

(Shares in case anyone else wonders)

MacaroniAndWalnut · 28/12/2012 21:40

Duck me that's clever

How did I not know this

And for free! Free!

Amazing

When I first got the Kindle app, you could use a link within the app to go to the Amazon store and get books directly, but Apple made them take the link off a while ago, because apparently it violated their rules by allowing Amazon to avoid paying Apple their usual cut from in-app purchases. I now keep a bookmark to the kindle store webpage in my books folder on my iPad together with my other book-related apps and links.

BertieBotts · 28/12/2012 21:56

You can do either - you can browse books using the app or using a broswer. And if you have multiple products, e.g. an iphone and an ipad which both have the app for example, or even and android phone and ipad or iphone and real kindle, if you buy something on one it syncs to all the others so you can read it anywhere.

BertieBotts · 28/12/2012 21:57

Oh I didn't realise that RustyBear.

ShakySingsMerryXmasEveryone · 28/12/2012 23:55

Rusty is clever Grin

So you can't buy books through the Apple app? Wow. How many more times will Apple make things awkward for their users?

So glad I'm an Android user. Apple's arrogance never fails to astound me!

Startail · 30/12/2012 19:59

I believe you once could buy books through the app, but as you say, Apples big headedness got in the way and they made Amazon cripple it.

Mind you, this Kindle Fire suffers from Amazon being equally smug.

Hulababy · 31/12/2012 22:51

What in find more odd is when you can't buy kindle books via the amazon app itself.
