DELL Laptop not charging staying at 1%?

Is there something I need to do to flip it to saving battery? As soon as I remove lead the laptop goes dead and is not saving any battery? It is on Dell power mode. I have tried switching it off and leaving power on but battery still does not charge on or off.

I bought it in September for Xmas for ds and therefore over the 28 days, but never opened it till today as was kept for Xmas.

I'd rather try and fix it at home anything I can do?

It will still be in warranty for a year season
Try googling the make of laptop and problem and a tetchy forum might come up

Techy!

It may be the battery charge tool on the toolbar is frozen - happens with my Dell all the time. Try the techy solution - switch off the PC and switch it back on again, then see if the battery charge emblem is back up to full strength.

Thanks all for your replies esp on Xmas day! I couldnt touch computer for 5 hours....took that long for 86 downloads to software to happen Hmm so when it finished and I could see what was happening again the battery was 100% charged phew...just takes a v v v long time!

However the battery light middle one to wifi and on/off light is flickering on and off constantly when on so don't know if still a fault there?
I'll keep an eye on it!

Hate to tell you this but Dells are notorious for this

After only a year I had to get a new battery and lead for my sons Dell. And it took 6 months for the same thing to happen. If you google it you'll see lots of people complain. I'll never buy a Dell again

I had a Dell. In the 12 months that I had it I had to buy 3 new batteries and 2 new chargers. You should be able to use it if it's plugged in but it sounds like your battery is knackered. Is it an Inspiron? The power jack at the back of the laptops are weak so this will go at some point if you're using it from the mains so you need to start saving for a replacement. I gave ds my sony viao when I bought the dell, that was a great laptop although it did have the same problem with the battery.
