I was used to dh's ipad, bought ghd camera thag came with this sansung tablet thinking it was a good deal but I regret it so much. If at least I could have something similar to the ipad spellchecker on this one ....is there a way? I am fed up.

What do you need spell-checked; emails, documents or something else?

bradyismyfavouritewiseman · 12/12/2012 08:15

Sorry. I can't convince you. Its shit. We had one and took it back.

Really want a tablet but not sure which one.

niceguy2 · 12/12/2012 09:51

Can you be more specific about why you don't like it?

To be fair Apple iPad's are still in the lead with regards to overall experience, just like the iphone used to be. But the gap has closed a lot and I suspect next year, Android will overtake the iPad just like the S3 has overtaken the iPhone as the best all round phone.

Just take a deep breath, reach for large stack of cash and get an iPad.
I have an Samsung galaxy phone, it's a piece of shit, cheap feel, slow responses, horrible keyboard, I hate it so I would imagine the tablets are similar. I had the original iPad, loved it passed it to my DD and have just purchased latest one, fabulous piece of kit, yes they are expensive and they may get overtaken at some point but they aren't kit that you keep for years and years anyway, so if something better comes out in 2/3 yrs you could upgrade then.
Sits here stoking shiny tech.

I much prefer my Galaxy tab to the Ipad, its so open and easy to use. You don't have to go through apple for everything, no pissing about with Itunes, there is usb access and its nice and simple.
The camera is far better than the ipad too.

AutumnGlory · 12/12/2012 12:02

I haven't tried the camera yet. My problem is the keyboard. When the spell checker is on the tablet won't let me write whit out choosing one of the options they give me. When the spell checker is off it is so hard to get any word spelled right, I think because the keyboard is so small always when I press a letter it accidentally touches another letter that ends up in the screen. And if the spell checker is off there is no such a function that will highlight the mistakes and help me correct it. English is not my first language but my english is alright however the samsung tablet makes my writing worse than my 5 year old. I reg this purchase sooo much.

you don't have to choose one of the options from the top, it just looks like you do, if you just keep typing it will auto choose the most likely, you only need to choose if you want a different one.
You can also download different keyboards to use, you don't have to use the one it comes with.

AutumnGlory · 12/12/2012 12:59

Oh thanks. How do I download different keyboards? Is there a 'stick' or 'pen' that I can use to tap instead of my fingers?? Also can anyone recommend a cover or case?

There should be an app on it to access the Google Play store, you can download other keyboards from there. Some are free, some cost money. Most of the non-free ones have a trial version so you can see if you like them.

MissCellania · 12/12/2012 15:19

yes, download from Google Play (the app store) and try a few different ones. I have several free ones. I don't know if you can use a stylus, sorry, never tried.

I have a lovely red leather case/stand that I got on amazon, and then I slip the whole lot in a neoprene sleeve to go in my bag.

It's a Samsung so go into settings and try the Swype keyboard. I use it all the time now and it's awesome.

Instead of tapping each button, you just swipe around. So for example if I wanted to type 'hello', I would press H then with my finger still down, move across to e then l then o. And it figures out 'hello'

It's SO much faster than typing. It's also a little more forgiving if you miss a key as it tries to predict what you are typing.

PedroPonyLikesCrisps · 12/12/2012 19:34

Swype and swift key are the best options. Swift key would be my recommendation, it has incredible word prediction based on your personal writing style. Also, you can get it free if you sign up for the beta version on their website. Current beta includes a swiping style input like swype.
