Ipod touch or Ipad, what are they both good for?

Can anyone tell me what functions either/both the Ipod touch or Ipad has? If you know something of both, do you think it's worth paying the extra for the Ipad. I've no idea about technology myself - the Ipod touch would be for my daughter, but if we invest in an Ipad it will be a family gift.

You could look at iPad mini, too.
I would have to Google to tell you the exact differences. I think it mostly comes down to increase in screen size.

Check for which generation each one is, too, big functional increases from 2nd to 3rd gen. iPod, for instance.

ps: and I personally wouldn't pay for 3G capability, not for a child, anyway.

Thanks for your replies. Will have a look at the iPad mini (I'm so technophobic I didn't know there was one!). Really need help here.

Depends how your daughter would use it and what else you have in the house. My 10 year old DD uses her Touch to message friends, also communicates via FaceTime. She also plays games on it and has some music although she's not a huge music lover.

However we also have an IPad which was my best present ever. The DC use it to surf and it means they can research homework at the kitchen table without having to go upstairs to the study. Of course they also play games on it.

I use it all the time to check mail, shop, MN etc. Gaming and surfing are much better on the bigger screen. It's also useful to take on holiday and watch movies etc.

So if choosing between the two, the IPad wins hands down, I couldn't be without it.
