I had Kindle for PC & I now have a Kindle

Both are registered to 'My account'

What do I do now?

Go onto Amazon.co.uk, to My Account, then Manage Kindle. See what it says in there about what devices are registered to your account.

Mine lists the Kindle first, then the other devices

Nick's Kindle [email protected] Kindle Keyboard
Nick's Android Android
Nick's Kindle for PC 2 Windows PC
Nicks Kindle for PC Windows PC

Not sure why I have two Kindle for PC but I think it's due to having had the software on an old laptop, then installing on my new laptop.

Below the list of devices is WhisperSync... make sure that says ON.

Has DH let you open your Kindle box before Xmas? Guess he has if you are now trying to sync it with Kindle for PC.

Is the Kindle connecting to your WiFi correctly? Check you can navigate KindleStore on the Kindle.

Try going on the Amazon website and downloading the book from there - it should give the option of which device to send it to. Send it to the Kindle, then see if the Kindle auto downloads it. Free kindle books

See if any of that helps to get the Kindle to sync with your existing library.

I have about half my book - 20 odd - how long do they take to download/sync?

Thanks - it seems to want me to download each one separately

No idea how long sync will take, maybe it does it in stages. On Kindle for Android it seems to store some books in a Archive rather than downloading them all (well it makes sense as it would fill lots of memory on the phone). Maybe your Kindle is doing a similar thing.

But I need them to go on holiday

My Kindle has an option under the main menu, Sync & Check for Items. Does yours have that, try selecting it to see it will force the Kindle to sync. Also look for an option called View Downloading Items, that may show what is currently queued for download.

Leave the Kindle on and at the Main menu page, so that it has an active WiFi connection.

when the kindle syncs over wifi, it gets the database of items available, it does not automatically download all of them. It will show the title/cover in the list, then when you select it, it downloads the selected item.

Are you syncing wirelessly, or have you plugged the kindle into the computer?

Sorted - books in collections only count as '1'

Thanks for your help
