Laptop mouse button not bouncing up any more

The title probably says it all. I have a Dell laptop, Inspiron 1545 model. A few weeks ago the left click mouse button just seemed to be constantly depressed - ie a millimetre or so below the right mouse button, and needing much more pressure to get it to click (and even then it doesn't make a proper click sound).

What can I do? I've got some compressed air in a spray can, but I can't even seem to get it to blow under the button properly. I could try taking the key off to take a look, although a bit nervous about doing that.

Any ideas?
