second hand x box 360 from a pawn shop?
ours inc kinect, 2 controllers and "live" for a year was £250
it was less than a month old

the original owners are probably still paying for it

minecraft for windows PC is v v glitchy : I got a refund in the end

best place for laptops is actually the basic Toshiba one from John Lewis - around £350 with all of their warranties and suupprt ....

ggirl · 25/11/2012 21:09

so play minecraft on an xbox?

I'm thick when it comes to gaming

OP posts:
ggirl · 25/11/2012 21:10

he has a ps3

OP posts:
TalkinPeace2 · 25/11/2012 21:15

not sure if it runs on the PS3
DS will lose hours (days if I let him) playing minecraft online with friends - wittering away
BUT
certainly don't buy a console new ....

ggirl · 25/11/2012 21:19

god it's so confusing
atm he plays online on laptop, would you have to buy minecraft game for a console?

TalkinPeace2 · 25/11/2012 21:21

if you have a laptop that runs it then stick with that - we could not get it to run ....
minecraft came with the xbox annual points sub that was about £20 for the year I think - I try to stay away from that mindless music Grin

ggirl · 25/11/2012 21:23

you lost me at 'xbox annual points sub '

ask your 10 year old ..... they will know every detail Wink

uggmum · 25/11/2012 21:27

My dc play it on our Mac, iPad and the Xbox. My ds really loves playing it with his friends on the Xbox and building structures together. It becomes a social activity with multiple friends, rather than playing it alone

germyrabbit · 25/11/2012 21:28

am with you in confusion ggirl my ds loves minecraft but he hogs the pc with it!

ggirl · 25/11/2012 21:43

ok I get it now, playing on a console ,it has to be an xbox , or you have to play on laptop etc
ps3 ie. sony don't have rights to the game

wonder if this will change

shame he's already got a ps3 cos it's prob cheaper to get an xbox to play it on rather than a laptop and it would work better

OP posts:
ggirl · 25/11/2012 21:44

and yes he hogs the laptop , drives dh mad

we've got wii and xbox both connected to the same telly (which has no aerial)
seems to work

second hand xbox is the way to go ....

ggirl · 25/11/2012 21:46

i think you're right!
so a pawn shop you say?!

OP posts:
TalkinPeace2 · 25/11/2012 21:48

yup - cash converters in our case!
it came with a 30 day no quibble guarantee if there were any problems
no box but it still smelt new!!

uggmum · 25/11/2012 21:51

You could try CEX, they do a good range of second hand xbox's. There is one in most main cities and are a bit cheaper than Game.

uggmum · 25/11/2012 21:53

Also, meant to add. We took in some old mobile phones and games and traded in at the same time. They give you more money to spend in store if you trade in and buy from them at the same time.

ggirl · 25/11/2012 21:54

ooh he has a wii to sell and a million games to go with it!
