Just that really. I know she would like one for Christmas and I would like to get her a good one (because she is absolutely wonderful and deserves something nice) I know nothing about them.Blush

iPod 4 8gb is very decent- has camera, FaceTime etc cost under£150 new or cheaper second hand but if you really want to splash out go for the iPod touch 5 - it's the new kid on the block and supposed to be lush but again I wouldn't bother with more than 8gb.
Don't forget the extras cost too.... Cover (must have), iTunes vouchers to buy apps etc,
Both mine have the iPod 4 and love it. (Dd 14, ds 11)

Thank you. I will have a look at those.

Or you could go for something like the Samsung Galaxy S Wi-fi 4.2. Cheaper because you don't pay the Apple 'premium', same storage space but also has an SD card slot which is a massive plus given what Apple charge for more memory. Plus you don't get locked into the Apple ecosystem which gives you far more flexibility over what goes into the device and which file types you can use.

ipod 4 8g and she'll love you. If you can stretch to a 16gigabite she still love you in two years.

Me and DD1 have filled our 8g iPods, bad E book habits.

Also the old ipods have pretty basic cameras, its there one real fault.

8gb isn't enough. In the first place, system files takes up some of the 8gb so in reality only about 6.8gb is available to you and this will quickly get used up by all the free apps that are available.

In anycase, unless you are buying a second hand model the issue is moot since new models start at 16gb.

New models ie 5th gen may start at 16gb but you can still buy 4th gen 8gb NEW from many sites like amazon - I know coz I've just bought one!
And 8gb is fine unless your planning to have loads and loads of stuff on there. Most kids only use up to ten apps at a time so you can keep the rest on your iTunes account and exchange what you download. If you want to watch a film on your iPod (personally I think it's too small a screen for this) then you'll need 16gb but for most other stuff you'll only need 8gb.

You are thinking like an adult :)

The average teenager will have tons of free apps, music, videos and photos on his/her gadget unlike us old-sters.

Obviously if the price tag is an issue then go for the 8gb. But if it isn't ......
