Have taken advantage of Apple/John Lewis sale. New dilemma now...DD would like a Kindle for Christmas. Amazon has one day sale with Fire at £99. But does she need all its facilities, given she has an Ipod Touch? Am I better off buying the basic £69 model please? Any advice appreciated.

If she's going to web browse or watch films on it, possibly.

Otherwise, no.

She can get online on Ipod touch and do facetime/skype etc on that so feels a bit like we're doubling up with Fire?

I'd go for the fire at that price ( didn't realise they were that in the sale I'm off to buy one now!)

So can she download films onto it, or is it just to watch streamed stuff? Sorry for my ignorance. And is 8mb enough for this sort of thing? Startail - she has an ipod, not ipad and I think the ipod screen is perhaps too small to read properly.

The iPad book reader is not as good as the kindle for reading in daylight anyway, and it's too heavy.

Buy the fire if the extra isn't a problem. Then she can do everything with it instead of carting round two devices all the time.

That's what I'd do anyway.

I read on my iPod touch using the Kindle app.
The screen is a bit small and I do struggle to read on it for long periods. That said the touch is ideal to read on when i'm sat in the car waiting for the DC.

We have just done same thing for mt mum, sibs bought her the £69 kindle but I insisted they changed it for the £99 kindle fire as can do so much more for the extra 39 quid seemed daft not to
