Need advice quickly!

My son has a mac and needs a hard drive to store more stuff for college. Do we need an apple one and get from apple or will any one do? Prefer apple but also need to consider £ Is a xmas present but apple store has sale today one day only so hoping to nip there in the next hour TIA

No. Any brand will do. Inside the case they're all the same. There are only a few hard disk manufacturers in the world.

You can get a 500GB drive from Amazon for around £42. Use that as a guide. Paying extra for an 'apple' one will give you nothing more.

What I will say though is to warn your son not to keep everything on the disk only. What I mean is if it's important, make sure he has two copies (eg. one on the mac, one on the disk)

Disks die and many people learn this lesson the hard way.
