I am thinking about getting a Nexus 7 for DH and DD (5) for Christmas. I have skimmed various reviews and decided on the Nexus over the Samsung thingy, Kindle Fire and iPad. This is mainly due to cost and the fact that we don''t own any other Apple things.

Anybody out there have any opinion on this? Sorry, I have no techie know-how and feel a little out of my depth.

It will mainly be used for surfing (DH) and probably a Peppa Pig app or two (DD). Possibly to watch iPlayer. Or maybe a film if we are travelling. Would a Nexus be okay for this? And would I need 16G or 32G?

And I read somewhere something about the Nexus with 3G being imminent. What is bloody 3G? And do I need it?

TIA

Or, do I need the 10". Would that be easier for DD? Or just less portable?

Aaargh, I just don't know!

We have one and it's fabulous.

Don't know what size it is but we currently have 3 films, and about 30 cartoons (10-20 mins each), plus a load of apps on it.

We don't have 3G (this means you can connect to the Internet without a wifi connection), but wifi is more than enough in the house, and we can use our phones if we need to do that when we're out.

Love it (and so does DS (2) )

Where do you download the films from?

orangepudding · 21/11/2012 14:11

I am using mine right now. I have a 32g one and love it. My kids find out really easy to use. You can have seperate users which is handy for having your own account and a kids one.

CarpeJugulum · 21/11/2012 14:27

Tends to be google play for movies.

BlueGuinefort · 21/11/2012 15:00

Ooh, sounding good so far. Is yours 16G or 32G, carpe?

No clue sorry.

Will ask the guru of all things technical DH when he gets in.

LoonyLyndsay · 21/11/2012 17:12

When they were first released they only did 8Gb & 16Gb versions my DH tells me (He's an IT man).

Now he said that they do 16Gb and 32Gb ones instead. He said that there's a Google Shop on them that you can buy things from.

BlueGuinefort · 21/11/2012 18:41

But will 16G be enough for a couple of cartoons, Peppa and a film or two? Is that was 16G even refers to?

CarpeJugulum · 21/11/2012 20:30

DH says it's a 16g Nexus.

DownyEmerald · 21/11/2012 22:38

Dp has decided he wants one for Christmas and handily has done the research for me. He says Nexus 7 32Gb. Go up to 10" and its too expensive for us (she says guiltily typing on her sooper-dooper new laptop).

Portofino · 21/11/2012 23:01

I so want to get one for dd for Xmas, but the Google Play store is so lacking in Belgium. Apps, but no music or films. I am going to hang a bit longer and buyt the bastard Lego Friends instead.....

BlueGuinefort · 22/11/2012 13:40

Thanks everyone. Right, decision made. A 32G 7" is the one for me.

Now, off to find the best deal...

We have one, it's great! Can download films from the Play store and watch without an internet connection, same with iPlayer stuff. Good choice :)

BlueGuinefort · 22/11/2012 14:15

Best deal so far is Tesco Direct for £199.99 with 3.03% cashback through TopCashBack and some Clubcard points.

Found anything better, Downy?

Has anyone found a better deal than this? I'm going to start having a look around now. Still not sure if I need 32G.

BlueGuinefort · 28/11/2012 20:56

Tesco had none of the 32G in stock yesterday, Mrs, so I have ordered it from PCWorld (with 1.5% cashback through TopCashBack).

Haven't seen it cheaper (yet!).

16G will be fine for apps and a few films.

I've got 14 films, 73 books and loads of documents on mine. It's never warned me about having too little data left or anything. It's good a good file storage system and seems to compress things well, so if you can't find a 32G, the 16 will be fine.
