How can i make the sound from my laptop louder?

I have a laptop which I hope has a speaker jack.
I am sure I have some old pc speakers in the loft.
I have some traditional hi fi speakers with bare wires.

Can I cobble something together. I'm thinking about chopping the pc speakers off the speaker jack. Joining the hi fi speakers to the end of my new cable jack wires.

Will that work? If nothing else.I would be able to get the speakers closer to my audience. I have 30min a ladder and garage full of tools to solve this ..

Your laptop will definitely have a speaker jack.

Chopping off the wires and joining them up to a new jack plug won't work because your hi-fi speakers will need to be amplified. Basically your laptop only has enough power to really drive a small loudspeaker/headphones.

At the price of PC speakers, quite honestly I'd just get a pair from ebay if you can't find the ones in the loft.
