So who knows about tablets? (not me!)

I have convinced DH we need a tablet. Actually he convinced himself because he thinks our DS's should have one 'for apps'. I disagree. I think I alone should have one... but anyway... ;)

I don't want to spend over £100 and have been looking at Amazon but am boggled. I have an android phone so was going to go for an android but tbh I'm still not that clued up because the only apps I use are weightwatchers and ebay.

I need:

something the kids can watch films and programs on when we are out and about in the car
something I can browse the shops on and my email
something the kids can play games on

I want something that has sound but works with headphones too.

I can't actually think of anything else since we have a pc at home anyway.

I dont really know how the internet connection thing works generally - can I do a mixture of wifi from home, then 3G using a SIM when we are not at home?

I want the best operating system I can get for the price - I just don't know what that is. I have decided on Android though.

I guess I want the most RAM I can get ( or at least a tablet that allows extra memory)

Anyone?

iplayer. I have heard that you can watch iplayer so I want that too!

I think if you double your budget then you can get yourself a Google Nexus 7 or Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.

I seriously wouldn't recommend a tablet which only costs £100. The Kindle Fire is £130 and even that's seriously locked into the Amazon world. In other words it's so cheap because you are tied into buying movies, books & apps from them.

If you are thinking of 3G access as well then you will need to look at tripling your current budget.

ooh, that shows how naive I am!!

Nexus 7 is definitely your best bet. You can get one for £169.

My DH also recommends the Nexus 7 but said to wait two weeks as they are bringing out a 32 GB version for the same price (currently 8 GB). He has a Nexus 7 and it is very good, more powerful than an Ipad but you need a phone for the internet connection when out and about (apparently you have to set up your phone to a tethered wifi hotspot to get the tablet to work). If you need any more information pm me and I will get DH to reply as he is the geeky one not me Grin.

DH just checked and he has the dates wrong, the 32 GB version is out now. Just make sure you don't buy the 8 GB as that is the same/similar price.
