What version of Windows did you upgrade from? Office apps should appear as tiles to the right of the Start screen.

Upgraded from windows 7. Even though DH has downloaded office no tile is appearing to the right of the screenConfused

Did he download it from the MS site, or official reseller? If not it's possibly an unlicenced copy and won't work

It was bought with the laptop last week so it should work but for some reason it's not. I've tried googling to see if I can find any info on why it won't work but can't find anything.

Have you tried searching for it? Mouse up to the top right of the screen (on starting screen or desktop) and click on the magnifying glass and search for Excel or Word, etc. If nothing comes up, then it's not installed.

If it does come up, right click and pin to start.

Dh tried to download it again, It downloads but normally when you download something you then get a prompt to install but this prompt isn't happening.

Why buy a laptop with WIndows 7 only to then buy Windows 8? Why not buy a laptop with Windows 8 installed?

Windows 8 was released two days ago - the rule of thumb is don't trust a Microsoft operating system until the first service pack is released (give it 10 or 12 months). If he can't fix or work around the bugs, he shouldn't be using it (until said service pack).

Restore to Windows 7 and reinstall Office.

Is Office 64bit? Is the Win8 version 32bit?

TheInvisiblePoster · 28/10/2012 20:57

It is a top of the range laptop and was sold with windows 8 software he didn't buy it seperately.
He is taking it to the place he bought it from tomorrow to see if they can help.

You said it was upgraded from windows 7 though?

WMittens · 28/10/2012 21:34

And why was he (re)installing windows 8 if it was already on?

WMittens · 28/10/2012 21:37

Was office bought with the laptop, and if so, did it come installed?
Or, was it bought as a boxed product, or was it bought with a previous laptop or pc?

WMittens · 28/10/2012 21:38

Sorry, ignore that last paragraph.

Is the licence for your Office up to date? That could be the problem. If its a download then the files should be in the downloads folder you will need to go in and install them manually. Surprised there are issues I've been using Win8 release preview and have had on real issues I will be upgrading to Pro though.
