what do i do about a smashed itouch screen. how much to get repaired

My Ds dropped his itouch last nigh and has smashed the screen. i want to get it repaired fairly quickly as we are off on our hols at half term.

does anyone have any experience of getting one repaired?
where did you take it?
how much did it cost?

There are lots of little phone repair shops about. My HTC cost 40 pounds to repair the screen, it took 2 days

Genius bar in Apple store will fix, cost depends on model but my iPhone was around £70 (ouch!!). Did it same day - booked appointment online.

Genuis bar insisted on replacing mine - still charged about £70 and set it all up for me. Took me 3 weeks to get an appointment though.

My local mobile phone shop replaced my iPhone screen for £50.

My DS dropped his iPad and my local phone shop repaired it for £70

So ive been into the apple store.
Options are.
Buy a plastic screen for it.
Pay £75 and get a brand new one. They keep the cracked one.
Or find someone independant to repair for about £50.
