Syncing iPhone to laptop...

Hi

Sorry if this has been asked a million times but can 't find a definitive answer.

So...i have an iPhone 4s and would like to sync it to my laptop. Said laptop already has a library full of music & apps that were synced from an iPod.

Can anyone give me some simples instructions to sync the phone without losing everything please!??

I've tried transferring all my music, apps etc to iCloud but it wont work without iOS 5 and i'm unable to update my phone with the latest software without syncing it first, so i'm a bit stuck!

Do you have iTunes on your laptop?

Bookmarking. My iPod has turned into a (blank) paperweight owing to much the same issue

Knows yes itunes is installed on the laptop.

Are the PC and the iPhone both authorised on the same iTunes account?

gold i have managed to 'transfer purchases' from my iphone to itunes and have authorised the phone to the account.

I'm guessing that i can now sync?

I haven't ever synced an iPhone, just iPods and iPod touches but the principle should be the same. Everything you've bought on that account should end up on but the PC and the iPhone.

I see no reason why you can't sync now unless an experienced iPhone user knows different.

It should tell you if anything can't be synched. When I copied all the CD tracks which Dh had put on the pc to my macbook I also got a couple of tracks he'd bought on his iTunes account. They play on my macbook but won't sync to my iphone or ipad and I get a message saying the device is not authorised to play them. If you get that message you just need to authorise that device for the account they were bought on.
