Setting passcode to accept friend on iPod touch

My DD (10) accepted an unknown contact as a friend on her ipod touch and his profie pic was pornographic. This happened despite us having the talk several times about only talking to people you know.

Does anyone know if you can control who your child accepts as friends when using the Touch?

I have set a passcode so she can't accept friends on games without my approval but not sure if it applies to messaging

What app was she messaging on?

If it was imessage, it's prob a spam thing, and you can't really block it afaik and now she has accepted one, there could be more attempts, so I would change her email address.

What app was she on?

She was on Touch. She also uses Kik, so I would like to restrict access to both.

Anyone know if one is safer than the other?

She was communicating with this man so police have been informed.

I haven;t actually heard of either of those. I would stick to iMessage personally, she would be far less likely to get strangers invites. I'm sorry to hear this happened to your dd.

Thanks chopstheduck, however it seems there's no way to filter who contacts her on imessage either so I guess we just have to hope this incident shocks her into ignoring any unknown contacts in future.

imessage though, you would have to have the recipient's email address in order to add them. Not sure if that is the case for those?

I would also suggest confiscating the ipod for a while too as a punishment.

You've had the chat, she ignored it. The rules were there for a good reason.
