Now that the i phone 5 is being released, would it be a good idea to get an iPhone 3g or would it be redundant soon?

The 3G is quite old, I'd look at the 4 or 4s. Its exactly what I'm doing, waiting to see if the prices drop.

Theas18 · 12/09/2012 23:10

The 3G is already redundant ,don't buy it. They are phasing out the 3GS.

My dd had my old iPhone 3G and we've had to replace it because it is unbelievably slow/buggy etc. I believe it's not updated and many apps are incompatible too..

See my post on the iPhone 5 thread, you can do much netter for yor money than apple these days -the iPhone 4 ( had one till may) is unimpressive when placed alongside the equivalently priced samsungs or htc.

I personally wouldn't go lower than the 4 now.
I have the 3gs and it's getting slower and slower with all the IOS updates.
Rumours are that IOS 6 will kill off the 3GS.

Apple are now selling the iPhone 4 new and unlocked on their website for a mere £319, which is quite good for an iPhone. I would personally get something like the Samsung Galaxy S2 instead though. The iPhone 3 is no longer supported and on its way out really, I wouldn't go for that.

thank you, but what does 'unsupported' mean? Does it mean, 'you are on your own if it breaks' or more of lack of apps and software updates?

:( I love my iphone 3! Will it still be ok for someone who doesn't really do a lot with it? I only use a few apps.

GentleLentilWeaver · 13/09/2012 16:42

It means that updated software will not be produced for the iPhone 3 for much longer, I heard about it when I was vaguely thinking of buying one earlier this year. Also, they are just so obsolete now in terms of what they can do/the quality of the camera, for the same money you could get an amazing phone elsewhere. And this is from an apple fangirl Grin
Dunno about if it breaks. It would depend where you got it from; unlikely to find a new one with a full warranty, and yes a used one you would be fairly stuffed if it broke.

I would put the money to a better phone . The s2 probably .

Mine was free (contract), I can't afford to buy one outright. Hope it lives till the end of my contract then!
