Anyone know how to back up txt messages on an iPhone?

I've just been reading a thread where a poster has said that she sets her iphone to back up her text messages automatically.

Does anyone know how to do this? :)

Every time your iPhone is charging and locked (ie you are not using it) it automatically backs everything up to iCloud.

I don't use icloud....its switched off and the only time i tried to use it I lost everything. When you back up the phone to the itunes (without using icloud) does this back up text messages too?

Yes,same thing. How do you switch off iCloud though?
I thought it was automatic?

No I had to turn iCloud on.... which I did, but then i didn't like it and tried to turn it off.....but then proceeded to loose everything! Maybe I did something wrong?!

I did have my iphone before icloud was around though
