printer stopping me print but I think there is ink!

My HP printer is preventing me from printing with a pop-up message saying the ink is low. Everything I printed out before that looked fine - there was no sign the ink was low. Now I can't print. Can I get around this problem?
TIA

Does this help?

Does it have black ink and separate colours? If so, it may be that the colours are empty, but you still have some black. Go to File and Print, select printer and click on printer properties. Find Print Quality and choose black ink only or grayscale.

Thanks, still trying. I am going to reinstall the driver and see if that works.

This has been a perennial problem with inkjet printers. Doesn't seem to matter which brand you get, they are all the same.

The low ink message comes on way in advance of the ink actually running out. Some like my Epson won't let you print out at all if the colour cartridge is empty even if your print is B&W only. To add insult to injury my last inkjet wouldn't even let you scan if the cartridge was low.

I've now switched to a laser printer and despite the extra bulk I love not having to faff about with cartridge cleaning, stupid messages and ink getting everywhere.

Well I have bought a new ink thingie and am going to try it and then swap and put the old one back in, to fool it into thinking I have changed it (suggested on cruel's link) . Don't know if it will work. I don't think it was that long since I replaced it and it has had only light use since then so I am sure there is ink there.

May look at laser printers also!
