W hy has laptop pad stopped scrolling screen please?

I can only move screen now by using scroll system on right-hand side - what have I done?

Seems lots of people have this problem, and I should "reinstall driver for touchpad" and other helpful stuff I don't understand. Am sure I've clicked something by mistake - somebody please help!

Sorry about duplication there - am fairly sure I have done this, but can't figure out how to unlock,
please let me know. p.s. Tapping top left of pad didn't work...

My laptop has a locked padlock symbol button and an unlocked symbol button right by the touchpad.

Other laptops you press the fn key with one of the f buttons, often f6 I think.

No padlock symbol button here, only on/off one near Start, which actually had exclamation mark on it, so of course I clicked this, which (of course) turned laptop off. Scrolling is now working again, (!) so next time will just do high-tech turn-off.

Have tried fn + f6, does have padlock -type symbol but doesn't help, neitherr did synaptics icon (red+white swirl), which is suspect.
