Basically we have wifi but our router is shit not performing as well as we'd like it to. According to the engineer that came round today our walls are too thick and we will need to get a repeater. OK fair anough. My computer will be in our barn conversionwhich is about 10 metres away from our house, and the wifi will need to stretch across the house - about 20 metres - so in total the range will need to be about 30 metres.

Can anyone recommend a really good repeater and will it extend to our outbuilding even though we have 'thick walls'?

Thanks in advance.

I think a homeplug solution might fit the bill better than a repeater, particularly if it's for a desktop computer rather than a mobile device. You can can combine homeplug with wifi.

Thank you Cruel, will look into that.

Just get wired I really really think you need to think about it, walls too think so you need a stronger signal?

First up that means your signal will go further so others savvy enough to hack will be able to ease drop but secondly and most importantly.

This world is full of Wifi, I get a signal for 7 devices here that are not mine, no one has ever checked the safety of Wifi so why would you really want to amplify your signal, all the fear over phones yet Wifi signals are stronger then mobile phone signals and everywhere at all times.

Just a thought, personally I have my PC wired and keep the wifi off most of the time.
