Getting photo's from DD's phone to computer has me stumped!

I'm not a particularly 'technical' person at the best of times. My own phones have been LG's that I have had no trouble taking photos off with the LG suite, and my current iPhone is simple to use too.

DD however has a Samsung Galaxy Fit - model number GT-S5670. I have successfully installed the device drivers (easy enough once I had found the right cable to connect the phone to the laptop). However, on her photo gallery, the only options to 'share' the photos are by Bluetooth, Gmail, Messaging or something called Picasa that you apparently need a Gmail account to use, and I have no idea what it is! There's no option to copy to the computer.

She does have an SD card in there, but I have no idea how to get the photos from an SD card to the laptop.

It needs to be done as A) Her SD card is almost full, and B) She needs some of the photos to complete her summer holiday Textiles GCSE work.

Doesn't help that she has 'misplaced' the instruction manual, either. Hmm.

Could you kind people please give me an idiots guide to getting photo's from her phone to the laptop?!

Does her phone and laptop have bluetooth. Mine does and thats how I transfer the photos across. A gmail account is an email account through google, takes 2 mins to sign up if you want to. Is the instruction manual online??

OneOfMyTurnsComingOn · 26/08/2012 13:33

Have you got a data cable to plug the phone into the laptop?

CouthyMow · 26/08/2012 13:40

I have the data cable, yes. Didn't think about an online manual, no. Tried Bluetooth, but my laptop won't 'find' her phone.

If you plug it in via the cable and the phone is switched on, you should see it as a device in "my computer". Double click on this to view the contents.

GiraffeAHolic · 26/08/2012 13:42

Does the laptop have an sd slot? If so just put the card in and you can extract the photos.

SoupDragon · 26/08/2012 13:50

Personally, I'd download Dropbox, dump the files in there and then, after installing Dropbox on the laptop too, look at them there.

CouthyMow · 26/08/2012 13:56

Is it simple for a technological incompetent like me to do, getting the photos off an SD card and onto the computer?

OP posts:
CouthyMow · 26/08/2012 13:59

When I double click on the contents of the device, on the laptop screen, there's still no option to download. Which Confused me.

Why are Samsung's harder to use? LG just loads the PC suite, then you click on download, and gallery, and it does the rest for you. The IPhone I just click copy, and it does the rest. This is just DIFFICULT!Grin

:) yes very. Put sd card in slot. Click start menu on laptop, choose 'computer'. Sd card will show up, click it and view contents.

Chances are that it'll autoplay when you insert the card anyway.

TheNinjaGooseIsOnAMission · 26/08/2012 14:01

does she have email on her phone, could she email them to herself. Or bluetooth to your phone, depending on how many?

GiraffeAHolic · 26/08/2012 14:03

Hang on, does the phone have Kies Air on it? As that will do it all for you.

TheNinjaGooseIsOnAMission · 26/08/2012 14:03

on your laptop, if you right click, do you get a copy option?

CouthyMow · 26/08/2012 14:03

I will try the SD thing I think, sounds like I should be able to cope with that!

Really wish I was more 'technically able', but it's all Confused to me!

OP posts:
CouthyMow · 26/08/2012 14:04

Kies air?! I don't think so?

OP posts:
CouthyMow · 26/08/2012 14:05

Yes, but when I click the copy option the laptop does nothing. Nada. All it does is gets out of that little menu back to the main screen.

OP posts:
CouthyMow · 26/08/2012 14:06

She has 900 photos on there, it'd take forever to Bluetooth them all to my phone!

OP posts:
CouthyMow · 26/08/2012 14:06

Her email isn't set up on her phone, but will investigate that option if I can't get them off the SD card.

It's an app that comes with Galaxy's, you open the app and it communicates with tge laptop and like magic everything appears!

SD card should be fine and easier to format anyway.

NCForNow · 26/08/2012 14:10

Click SD Card....then click FILES andd it should show up a little list of digits...click the top one...then another rw of digits will show....click that and you SHOULD be into the pics. Top left it will say "Import to Gallery" click that...then another box will show up that says Name these files....name the file "DDs Txtile Pics" and then click go.

NCForNow · 26/08/2012 14:11

Or take the SD card to Boots or a photgraphic shop...stick it in their machine and print some...or ask them to put it on a CD for you to play back on comp.

CouthyMow · 26/08/2012 14:13

Too expensive to get it done elsewhere, need to do it myself. Will be back later after I get back from the park with the DC's, and will have a go with the SD card then. Thank you for your help, though I may need more later. Grin

Oh FFS. She has apparently list her SD card. So there isn't one in there. Angry

How else can I do it?

OP posts:
CouthyMow · 26/08/2012 16:10

She has no credit, can she still download that app? I can't afford any Credit for her till Tuesday.

OP posts:
CouthyMow · 26/08/2012 16:17

Ok, I've sussed it! At the top of the screen on the phone, you can pull down a notifications bar. If you plug the phone into the laptop then pull down that bar, it asks you if you want to upload your files.

Easy when you know how!!
