iPod - 8GB or 32GB

We've agreed that DD can have an iPod touch for her 8th birthday. Been looking around and see 8GB is approx £149 and 32GB is approx £210.

She'll use the iPod to store her music, but I can't see her ever having more than 100 albums. She will probably upload free apps / games etc, take lots and lots of photos of daft things and make equally daft videos of her and her friends. I wouldn't imagine her uploading TV programmes or films onto it (not even sure if you can). Also, don't think she will be uploading books onto it.

Taking above into account, will the 8GB model be sufficient or do I need to pay the bit extra and buy the 32GB model.

We can afford to pay the extra, but to be honest I feel £149 is more than enough for an 8 year old.

Any advice will be welcome.

You don't seem to need as much storage now because everything can be stored in the iCloud (through iTunes) rather than on the device. I bought a 160GB iPod about 5 years ago but now tend to just use my iPhone with the iCloud. I would pop into an Apple store and have a chat if you're unsure.

I need a lot of storage on my iPhone. But it's the videos and pics of the kids that take up the most room. The iPod touch will probably be fine.

My 12yr old DD has the 8gb Touch.
She's put quite a lot of apps and music on it and she still has space for more. It depends on the app size to be honest.

We have to keep deleting stuff from DS's 8GB Touch, to make space for new apps. A lot of good apps can be had for free and this quickly eats up the 8GB.

If I had to do it again I would buy the 32GB.

my 10 yr old has the 8gb and its full, hes not got that much on there tbh and he wants to download a lot more but alwasy has to delete something to add something new.
if you can afford it then id go for the 32gb and it should last well into and beyond teenage years then too. make sure things like the screen are covered on your home inusrance as that is what breaks most of the time and the only thing not covered under the one year warantee.

Thanks for all the replies and I think the 32GB would be the better of the two in the long run.

However, since posting my original question, met friend for lunch and she's just bought her DD a 7" tablet for £50.99.

Looks quite good for a fraction of the price so now I'm in even more of a dilema.

Guess I'll need to ask DD what she would like.......here's hoping it's the latter!

that looks a good price. If it works as well as it says then great.
We've just got the google nexus 7 and its really good, although about the same price as 8gb ipod so still a big spend.
