Currently have an old clunky TomTom that is no longer supported, so we are looking to upgrade.

Which Sat Nav would you recommend and why for a budget of around £150.

It depends what you want.

The Garmin Nuvi 1240 is cheap, under £70 on Amazon. It's simple enough for my wife to use without constantly badgering me for help. It comes with maps for most of Western Europe. It has a pedestrian mode. It is small enough to fit in a pocket. Battery life on the 1240 was around 2 hours. I believe you can get the 2240 with lane assist for a few quid more.

It isn't widescreen, it doesn't come with live travel information. It can occasionally be slow to pick up the satellites. Last time I looked you could buy "lifetime" map updates for £55 on Amazon.

It's pretty good for £70 and if you don't need the bells and whistles, then why pay more.
