Iphone 4S volume not working

Volume on phone started to stop and start when listening to music or radio through the head phones. Volume would start if I took headphone jack out of socket and put it back in. Now the speaker volume is working very intermittently, mostly not working. Phone still works as a phone and Siri still works. I've only had it 5 months. Not dropped or damaged in anyway.

If it was a speaker problem I'd assume that the phone wouldn't work but it does and the ringer volume is fine. It just seems to be the loudspeaker volume control that is the problem.

Does anyone know if this is easy/possible to fix?

Hopeful bump.

When I had a problem with my iphone 3G headphones, I found there was a tiny bit of something in the headphone port, which was making the phone believe there was a jack in there all the time, but also preventing the jack from connecting properly. I got it out by a bit of prodding with a cocktail stick (though I was worried about it breaking, but I didn't want to risk using anything metal) and some shaking.

If it's only 5 months old, take it into an Apple Store and they will fix it for you or replace it.

Thanks. The last time I went to the Apple store it was an utter waste of time (with ds's ipod). I was given conflicting advice in the store, on the website and by phone. I thought their customer service was terrible. I only bought the 4s so I can facetime ds when I'm abroad on business. When the contract expires I will get a Samsung Galaxy.

I will try the cocktail stick trick and hope it works.
