Printer Issue - please help me!

I'm at my wits end now!

I'm not a computer/ printer expert so please can you help me?

I have an Windows XP computer and my printer is HP Photosmart C4600 All in One series.

A couple of months ago, a message flashed up tha the colour ink cartridge was running low, so we replaced it. We then printed a cartridge alignment page. We then loaded it as specified onto the glass and pressed OK to scan the page. This is where our problems start, we never managed to get past this point. The computer kept saying alignment had not been successful.

So, a few months on, im still here without a printer. I have attmepted to fix this, but my DC has been unwell and I've not been at home much. But im getting desperate now. I have lots of printing to do!

Please advise if you can. Thank you.

Take the cartridge out, blow hard into it's crevices could have dust in it and put the cartridge back again, check everything is plugged in properly, tell it you'll feed it a lovely chocolate cake and pat it's head have seen techs doing this albiet with a bit of swearing and a hard thump
