Two iTunes accounts under the same email address? Possible?

DD1 has an iPod Touch, and her iTunes account is set up on my email address. She's currently the only Apple user in the house. DD2 is about to get an iPod Touch for her birthday, and I will need to set up an iTunes account for her as well. Can this be done using the same email address, or will I be told the account "already exists"? They won't be sharing music/vouchers etc.

OK, so I know it's a dull question, but someone must know the answer.

I'm pretty sure you can't do that.

But you could set up a gmail account to use for her iTunes, which you have passwords etc for (am I right in thinking its because you want to see what she is accessing?).

Gmail account could then be forwarded to your primary email so you don't have to check it separately.

Does that help at all?

It's not really to see what she's accessing, but let's say DD2 has an iTunes voucher - I'd like for her to spend it, not her sister!

I just haven't got my head around it.

Then I think you definitely need two separate accounts - and 2 different email addresses.

To complicate matters a little - I have 2 accounts, based on 2 different email addresses, so that I can access iTunes in two different countries. (set up in Ireland, credit card still from there, based in NZ now & want access to apps limited to there). I have them both on the same iTunes & just switch between them as necessary. Not sure if you'll need something like that? Will both iPods be linked to same computer?

Now my head is really hurting. Grin

I wasn't aware they were linked to a specific computer.

It depends whether you're using a PC or a Mac, IIRC. iTunes was designed with Mac users in mind and the PC version is something of a botch job (although it is an awful lot better than it used to be).

The iTunes account is registered to a particular user. That requires an email address and a password. Then all purchases are linked to that account.

To make your life easier you may need to create a new, separate login for one of your kids so that the two iTunes accounts are kept entirely separate.

We are a PC household.

Hmmm....DD1 does have her own email address, so maybe I can change her iTunes account to that, then use mine for DD2. Or maybe just have the one account that they both tap into/share. Assume that's possible. Aargh. Hate Apple!

Yes, definitely possible for them both to share same account - my iPhone & old itouch are on same account without any problem. Advantage is that what is on one can be on other too - so music, apps etc only have to be bought once if they have same taste.

Are they old enough to have an honour system for not spending each others vouchers?

CointreauVersial · 15/08/2012 23:03

Honour system?? Grin Grin

Actually, that's a very good point, they do share the same taste in music and pointless timewasting apps. Maybe I will put them on the same account and keep a careful tally of who spent what.

Thanks for your help!
