Which is generally better if you want to sell your stuff?

Not sure why you'd need to blog about it at all.

Google Search finds items on Gumtree, Ebay and Amazon, and I feel sure other search engines also scan those (and many hundreds of other 'retail' sites).

I would not really mix the two things - listing on Ebay / Gumtree may be more fruitful than having your own website, and blogging is a different thing entirely (I see a few 'technical' bloggers who try to benefit from linking to items for sale (ie getting commission from having Google Ad links, or linking to retailers' web sites, but I [and probably a lot of others] don't click any links from their blog, just absorb any useful info about the product / service).

Of course, I should expect to be proved wrong by another poster :)

Freelancers / Self Employed section might already have covered this question.

Good luck.

I do put stuff on ebay but it seems as though it kind of gets lost in the morass of other stuff. I'm just thinking in terms of general profile-raising as well.

Set up a blog using Blogger. It's owned by Google and, as long as you tick the right options, it automatically lists your content. Ime, if you post more than three times a week Google trawls it frequently :)

You can import your Ebay ads into your blog. I've forgotten how exactly to do it - I set up exactly this for a friend last year. It's quite likely that Blogger and/or Ebay provide free tools for this. If you don't find one straight away, try the ebay forums and one of the forums for Blogger developers (not users).

Extra tip: Amazon definitely publish the tools for listings with them. Register as ... umm, an Associate, I think (you can tell I've not been working!), and read their interminable help guides.

Oh, yeah ... Once your bog's working properly, being indexed and so on, set up a Google Analytics account. Follow the links from your blog control panel. Then just leave it. After a while, Google Analytics will start sending you offers for £75 of Adwords free (ignore the £25 one that comes first!)

Cool, thank you. Basically I make stuff and write stuff and have a few contacts that I want to milk, so am going to get on with it...

Don't forget to post a link when you're done :)
