I was using laptop afternoon when it went onto a blue screen and then switched off before i had chance to read what it said. Now the screen only lights up slightly and it now won't boot up any further you could think it wasn't on at all.

I've tried removing the battery so that i can reboot it but that's not worked, im clueless with anything remotely teccy ive no idea what to try. HELP!!

Oh dear. It sounds like your screen has malfunctioned. The exact same thing happened to mine, and I had to get a new screen, about £150. Good luck.

I don't think its the screen its done this before but removing battery has sorted it.

Do you have a desktop PC aswell? You could plug the screen from the desktop PC in to the laptop and start the laptop up to see whether or not Windows loads on the desktop screen. That would allow you to decide if the screen had packed up.

From your description I'd guess the motherboard or processor had croaked.

It sound like you have BSOD(blue screen of death) caused by either hardware failure or software error. This article tells you how to fix it but if you are not techy do you have a local pc repair shop that could take a look at it(not PC world)

What make of laptop is it?

McFarts · 01/07/2012 17:08

Hi,

Ive taken it into a local independent pc shop its the graphix chip thingy that sends the information to the screen. Its not really a replaceable part but the very clever fella in the shop has managed to fix it by heating it up. The system also needs rebuilding (hoping this makes sense to the teccy types because it means bugger all to me Grin). I should hopefully have it back for tomorrow. He's charging me £60 which feel is a fair price, im chuffed because i though we would need a new machine.
