iPad vs new iphone

On mat leave for potentially another 6 weeks with minimal ability to walk, be physical, so quite a bit if time on my hands :)
Currently own an iPhone 3, out of contract so on low monthly cost (£15). Spend a lot of time on Internet on phone, as more comfy on sofa/bed than at desktop (mac). Debating on upgrading to new iPhone 4 (?5) or investing in iPad and switching to basic phone when this one dies. Any thoughts?
NB once triplets arrive may not have much time to surf Internet, so other alternative is just to save the money and put up with current phone for the next 6 weeks! :-)

I have and iPhone 3 which I use all the time. But when I am at home I have a iPad can't remember the last time I used a laptop. The main difference is the screen as in the size. 6 month is a long time on a small screen. I also use mine as a kindle. Hope this helps

I have an iPhone 4 which I'm on now and I love more than my children
As you have a 3, and you're not going to be very mobile for a while I'd go for the iPad.
