New iPad - which case/cover?

I'm, cough, 40 next week and dh is getting me a new iPad. I have an iPad 1, but it is so slow now, plus the children nick it and I hardly ever see it. That iPad has a Zagg screen protector on and it's going a bit wrinkly now....a bit like me!

My question is do I go screen protector free (dh's idea and it scares me) and keep it just for me? What case do I get? I have a speaker dock so need to be able to get it out of it's case easily. I thought the Apple smart case might be good as it would protect the screen too.

Do you all have screen protectors on your iPads?

I used to have a Macally bookstand case for my original ipad, but for the new one I have just a smartcover, no screen protector or back, but I don't have small children to mess it up. I do keep it in a case this one when I'm carrying it in my bag. I saw a friend's iPad the other day and she had one of the new apple smart cases which protect the back as well. It looked much slimmer than a lot of cases, but looking at reviews online, it seems you have to take it out of the case for most docks or to use the camera connector. It doesn't seem to be too tight a fit to get out reasonably easily, though.

I look after 15 iPads at the junior school I work at, and we have Griffin Survivor cases for them - they are very tough; they have a separate plastic screen protector rather than a film one, with a plastic shell that clips on and a silicon cover that goes over that. The plastic sheet screen cover doesn't feel quite as nice as the plain screen and you have to touch a little bit more firmly. We did find the protective flaps over the ports a bit fiddly, and I have cut off the ones over the camera and microphone because the year 3s were finding it difficult to keep them out of the way when they were filming.

I recently got a new ipad and got this cover
I hate it , too bulky and the stand is not stable or comfortable to use . I am going to get the apple case instead.

i bought the apple smart case today in barbie pink in an effort to put ds off nicking it Grin

Thanks for info! I think I'll go for the smart case and then a pouch to keep it in, but I will look at the Incipio one first.

RustyBear - I have the same case as you for my iPad. Going to leave the old one in that as I don't want to get muddled up and hand the children the new one!

ggirl - I better go for the dull grey to put my girls off!

Do you all have screen protectors?

I have a Grifin back case but nothing else. Have had screen protectors on my iPhone and never liked than much (but have smashed screen twice Blush). Am going to get a carry pouch but otherwise stick with system of back only.

Still faffing. ggirl - i watched some youtube reviews of the apple case (how sad) and in some of them it didn't look a snug fit. Put me off a bit. Is it easy to get it out of the case? Some of them looked like they were struggling to get it in.

I haven't taken it out yet..when ds has finished videoing himself being silly I will try

ggirl · 03/07/2012 20:03

nope..easy , just tug on the corner

wishiwasonholiday · 03/07/2012 20:04

I have a back case off eBay that locks the smart cover on or I found it kept slipping off.

I have screen protectors on too, i drop my iPhone all the time and screen has never smashed, maybe screen protectors help?

I've just bought the apple smart case yesterday and it knocks spots off the other 20 cases I've tried. Expensive but worth it to have a case that fits properly. And yes a screen protector is a must even with the Apple case.

I've got a lovely one from Lente Designs

I use it in school and it feels well protected.

Most importantly, it's pretty

pigsinmud · 03/07/2012 20:23

Thank you so much. I will get the smart case. I am so indecisive Smile
