Can't transfer purchases from iphone to itunes

Am I being thick? (probably). This is the problem. Please please help me!

I have an iphone 3GS and have just bought an iphone 4S. I also have an ipod classic. The iphone 3 has 4 or 5 albums on it i downloaded, and 2 series' of peppa pig. The ipod has all my music on it.

I have previously synced my phone with the itunes library on my home laptop, as has my DH. We have changed laptops so we have NO IDEA where the music is stored. I seem to have backed it up to my external hard drive, but for about 1/2 the songs on it it can't actually find the file.

I also have a MacBook for work - and now I want to use this as my main computer and sync my iphone to this, with all music from both devices. (And leave DH to the sodding home laptop). Then I can use the cloud, yes?

I have backed up my iphone3 to my MacBook and downloaded all the pics to my desktop (in a folder). All my contacts are synced, my ical is updated BUT the albums I have bought have not transferred over to my itunes.

Help!

If you right click on the name of the iPod when it's connected, you should get a contextual menu with 'transfer purchases' on it
