Stupid "messenger" contacts on Yahoo

I've been using Yahoo mail for years. Just lately I keep getting annoying, flashing messages when I am trying to read my e-mails. It usually says something like Elly22398713 wants to talk to you and then I have to click Block or Decline. I can't see how I can totally block it though as I don't want ANYONE contacting me via this stupid messenger service.

Anyone else got experience of this?

Can't help but it's been annoying me too grrr luckily I mainly check my emails on my phone

Snap - will watch with interest!

If it comes up with an email address afterwards you can block that email entirely in the mail options.

Top left-Options.
Left hand column-blocked addresses.

You'll have to do it for each one though.

Also go into the Messenger options (under mail) and block all users not in your contacts list.

Should get rid of most, if not all, spammers.

FWIW, as I tend to use GMail from my phones and computers, I've set mail to be forwarded (and I can reply with my Yahoo address) but as I rarely login, am never "online" to get chat requests.

I block the individuals but like you say NatashaBee this only blocks the current sender and not any future ones. Personal Clown - Will try blocking all users not on contacts list and see if that works - hopefully this will only affect the messenger element and not the standard emails?

Blardy annoying though that it just started up - nobody I actually know uses this messenger element of Yahoo so it's just an "in" for spammers as far as I can see.

Right I have just blocked all users not on contacts list and will report back in a few days and see if that works. Looks very hopeful so thanks for that Personal Clown Smile

Argggh! It was all going swimmingly for a few days but then another "person" has tried to contact me and is blinking away and this rather annoying message appeared when I opened it:

You are currently blocking messages from users who are not in your contact list. To communicate with this user you will need to either add them to your contacts or change your privacy settings

YES I AM BLOCKING MESSAGES THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT!!! Angry

How thick are Yahoo??
