shutter speed on smartphone

I've got an android smartphone (Galaxy ace) and the shutter speed on the camera is rubbish - it just takes ages. Are there any apps I could download to help with this?

In the absence of some else more expert turning up .... :)

Your shutter speed is a hardware issue rather than a software one. The sensors on a phone isn't as powerful as that found on a camera. Consequently it takes time to auto focus. On a high end phone the lag isn't too bad but your phone is towards the budget end so the lag can be quite irritating.

Thanks...I suspected as much. Due to upgrade in a few months so I'll make sure I make this a priority when checking out new phones. Am thinking Samsung SII or III...any comments on whether the shutter speed should be significantly better? Or on how the cameras on these compare to Iphone 4S?

I have a HTC One X and the camera is very good with no significant lag between pressing the button and the picture being taken. I have no experience of the other phones on your list but they are high end phones so the camera should be pretty good.

You may want to check out the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. It was one of the phones that I looked into and I remember a reviewer going on about how impressed he was with the zero lag camera.

Most large shops have working models of these phones on display. Why not just pop down and have a play

I have an SII, personally I think the shutter speed is slow compared to my cheap point and shoot, but not massively so. I can't compare to other phones.
