iPlayer Desktop driving me crazy

Anyone else having trouble with iPlayer Desktop?

Mine keeps on saying that I've got no downloads, yet there are large files in the repository directory.

Reinstall of Air and iPlayer Desktop has not fixed it. So I'm now trying to delete all remains of iPlayer and then reinstall as if from scratch.

Anyone else had trouble running iPlayer Desktop on Vista? Anyone had problems with it downloading things and then the next day saying you have nothing.

Removing and reinstall has not helped.

Now doing a system restore to a point a few days ago, which is prior to a Windows Update.

Drastic measures - factory reset of the laptop. It's a machine I purely use for internet video, so fortunately I can reset it back to default and start again.
Will that fix the issue... hmm?

BBC are updating this page on their website with regard to the current problems with iPlayer Desktop. No solution as yet (17:30, 11-June-2012)

At a guess I would say it is likely to have been an issue with the updated version of Adobe Air, which for some reason has stopped the iPlayer Desktop Air app from working correctly.

I don't do the iPlayer Desktop at all, I use get_iplayer which seems to be very reliable (although not as user friendly I guess). There is an installer for the latest Windows version about halfway down the page.

Thanks, will give that a try.

iplayer is doing my nut too!!!! I restarted my computer and all my downloads disappeared and it won't let me download anything new. I saw the web post on their help page so I'm hoping they'll get it resolved soon and my downloads will either reappear or I can re-download them. I'm surprised they haven't fixed it yet tho. I'd have expected all the BBC geeks to be on the case.

P.s BBC no I do not want to live stream the programme instead, it keeps spooling, that is why I tried to download it in the first place!!!!

Aaaaaaaaaarrrrrggggggggg!!!!!!!!

The BBC claim they have fixed this problem for the vast majority of users, but it's still not working for me - am I the only one?

nannynick · 16/06/2012 13:25

I have downloaded version 3214 which is the latest and it's still not working.
I can click the programme on the iPlayer Website and it gives me the download option, it then appears to download. iPlayer desktop however does not let me click any of the tabs, such as Coming Soon, Available now.

Gah! It's driving me mad - I don't know what to do about it TBH. It's very inconvenient! Hope it gets fixed soon - I've been watching 4OD!!

nannynick · 16/06/2012 14:22

I'm using Get_Iplayer. That works fine, though I do look up what has been on via the iPlayer website first so I can then search for it using Get Iplayer.

4OD does not download though does it? Streaming I find can be painful during peak times, even with BTInfinity (yep, faster broadband does not always mean better streaming).

Is there anyway of downloading 4OD content... via YouTube perhaps?

I'm just streaming it and gritting my teeth........will check out Get Iplayer, thanks nanny I NEED an alternative!!!

nannynick · 19/06/2012 22:06

Install the Windows version of GetIplayer. Then run Web PVR Manager and it will open your web browser and let you search for something to download.

I have a mac - will that still work?

nannynick · 20/06/2012 16:25

I don't think so.

Try something like Get iPlayer Automator which is for Mac and it says it adds the shows to iTunes.

Not sure if the Automator comes with everything needed (it probably does). If not, then it may need: rtmpdump and ffmpeg.
