Internet connection to Apple without wifi

I have to go off site for work with my apple tablet. The problem is that I have to access the internet and there is no wifi over there. This was no problem when I lugged over my laptop as I just connected to the internet with a blue internet cable but with apple, I can't do this as there isn't the little hole (IP Port?) for the cable to go into.

Does anyone know if there are any fancy cables that I could buy so I could plug into the internet from the apple? I've got the horrible feeling that the answer is going to be 'no' but i thought I would throw the questiout to mumsnet as I'm assuming someone out there knows more than our IT guys.

I jsut tether mine to my iphone. You turn on the wireless hotspot thing, and it connects to my phone's internet via bluetooth.

or you can buy something like this here

I think this thread probably answers your question but Chops is right, you need to use the iPhone (or similar) to connect to the mobile network. I had assumed you could buy a fancy thingy to plug into the USB port of the iPad but apparently not ...

Thank you everyone. I knew mumsnet would provide the answer!! I don't think work will pay for me to have an iphone and contract so I'll have to persuade work to buy me a notebook which is easier to carry.

I use my Samsung smart phone as a hub to connect my iPad to, am on a very generous data tariff.

It doesn't have to be an iPhone - other phones can also provide a wifi hotspot for your tablet to connect to

As RustyBear says, it doesn't have to be an iPhone. My Android phone does it fine, and I think if you get a GiffGaff SIM (and have an unlocked phone, or O2 phone as GiffGaff uses that network) then for a tenner or maybe 15 quid you can apparently have "unlimited" data.

Not sure why but even though I've filled in the form for a GG SIM they haven't sent me one, so far, so not been able to test, but you see ads for GiffGaff all over the web (eg on Ebay, etc). GiffGaff is a PAYG type thing - you top up with how much you want and purchase one of their "goody bags" (their name for add-ons / bundles / freebees !)
