Iphone 4 menu key not working

The menu key on my 1. Yr old iphone 4 isn't working properly

At best it's temperamental but it's so so SO FUSTRATING

I've up thingies the newest version of ios5 or what ever it is, I think it's a software glitch rather than hardware.

I've rebooted it, backed it up etc and it worked again for a week and today it's dead again.

Help

This happened to my iPhone 4 -they key felt sticky so I think it was a hardware issue

Can't really help you though as I lost the phone before it was sorted (would rather have sticky key than lost phone)

I take it it's out of warranty? Even if it is apple are usually very good at replacing faulty phones out of warranty (they replaced my previous iPhone that had a dodgy speaker, was meant to charge me £130, but I cried while in store as I couldn't afford a new phone, and I broke every feminist bone in my body in the process)

Is this the big 'home' button in the middle of the bottom part of the iPhone? It is a known problem; my DH's had it and had to be replaced under warranty.

Shockingly for Apple, the 'turn it off and turn it on again' solution seems to offer the best workaround. Some info here and something to do with the cable here.

Mine is starting to do it too, it's very, very annoying.

TheSkiingGardener · 19/05/2012 21:55

Mine does this. I now have turned on the thing under the accesability options which means I have an on-screen button instead.

It's a known problem, and a pain in the arse.

RighteousDude · 19/05/2012 21:55

Mine does too. Sometimes. Typically I've just finished my initial contract and gone onto a sim only one grrrrr

TheSkiingGardener · 19/05/2012 21:56

It's under settings>general> accessibility> assistive touch.

OnlyWantsOneTwoAndThree · 19/05/2012 22:10

A ahhh yes ment to say I have the on screen button to use but still it's a Pita

And I've already had my phone replaced once by apple for a smashed screen last summer.

Shit.

I've only had it a year and this actual phone probably less than that. Warranty is how long??

Blimey I didn't know this was a
Known fault-terrible

What for iPhone 4s or all iPhone

Warranty a year I think. Did you have to pay to have it replaced? I don't think they ever let you have a second phone free but you could argue the one you have now is still under a year old???

Hervana · 19/05/2012 22:16

If its still under a year they should def replace it

Get thee to apple store!

OnlyWantsOneTwoAndThree · 19/05/2012 22:19

Shall book genius bar appt.

Huff in all pregnant. The tears will come naturally.

I didnt have to pay last time no thank goodness!!!
