connecting laptop to TV

please talk me through this in words of one syllable... I asked my younger brother & was bemused instantly!

I have a laptop (an ibook) which has a dead screen. I want the photos that are stored on the laptop off it, so I need to hook it up to a working screen so I can see what I am doing - I thought my TV. What do I need to do this? The laptop is about 5 years old & the TV is brand new.

Pretty please?

is it? I forgot to say I got a VGA (?) cable which doesn't fit the laptop...

Go to the apple store and ask them what cable to buy

They might even help you transfer your data to your external hard drive in the store

Because Apple are special, they don't have standard connectors on their computers. So you need a special connector.

The middle of the three options listed here would probably offer you the best chance of getting your ibook connected to the tv. You would also need a VGA cable to connect from the connector to the TV.

They are very helpful in the Apple store, actually, if I haven't sorted this by the next time I go to the shops I will nip in.

Flackpackhamster, that sounds like what my brother was chatting on about. I will investigate, thanks.
