iPhone 3GS with Virgin mobile sim

Hi I posted about this a while back. I have had my friend's old iPhone 3GS unlocked. It now works with my Virgin Mobile sim, except for 2 problems. 1) It appears to synch with my iTunes, but no music is actually transferred to the iPhone. 2) I can use wifi in my house, but I don't seem to be able to use mobile web out and about, although I have mobile web use on my Virgin account.
Any ideas would be much appreciated! Thank you.

iphone data tariffs tend to be different to normal phone tariffs. You will need to ask virgin for the settings if they will let you stay on your current tariff, or they may want you to switch to an iphone tariff.

For 2) I suspect your iphone doesn't have the correct APN settings.

Try this:

Go to Settings -> General Settings -> Network -> Cellular Data Network

And in there put the following:

APN: goto.virginmobile.uk
username: user
Password:

If this works then you may also need the MMS settings to be able to send picture messages.

Thanks for your help, folks. I tried what you suggested, niceguy2. My first problem was that under 'settings - Network - ' there was no 'Cellular Data Network' option, just Cellular Data on/off. I found something on Youtube to change the APN, and after I installed this, an additional menu item appeared under General Settings, called 'Profile - APN carrier settings'. I entered the details you listed above into this section, but it still didn't work.

Chopstheduck - I tried registering the iPhone with my Apple i.d., but no luck. The phone appears to sync, but no music appears on the iPhone.
Incidentally, I phoned Virgin mobile. They said there's no reason for me not to be able to access mobile web with Virgin Sim, and suggested I take the phone to an Apple shop and ask them if it's set up properly to access mobile web. I wasn't convinced she wasn't just fobbing me off though!

Sorry for the long post. Thanks for taking the time to offer suggestions for my annoying problem!
