Voicemail on iPhone4s on T-mobile

I recently upgraded to iPhone 4s from a little Nokia and am very happy with the phone.

However, I've tried several times to set up the voicemail, I've texted the number t-mobile gave me and I've recorded my name. But when I ring myself and it goes to voicemail, I don't get my recorded name OR the option to leave a message, just 'the person is unavailable, call back later'.

Any thoughts, anyone, before I brave the T-mobile customer helpline?!

I couldn't get mine to work either so I use HulloMail.
this is actually better for me because I have no mobile signal at horne but I can retrieve a voicemail via my wifi.
