new tvs - getting online

what do you need to get online on a tv? i know you can buy smart tvs but if you get a fairly modern 2nd hand one is there a way of going online (if it's not branded as a smart tv)?

someone said you can use a wii or something like that?

What pieces of equipment will turn a bog standard tv into an internet tv?

I don't even know if my question makes sense!!

A PS3 will do it but all the consoles are limited (especially the Wii), if you have HDMI/Serial connectors on the thing you can just connect it to a PC.

But the TV itself will never be an internet TV, you can not use the TV remote to surf etc, unless it is sold as an internet TV all you will be doing is using it as a monitor.
