help, lost photos on phone?

Have (well had) a motorolla flip top phone...in pretty pink. Today it totally fell apart, hinges snapped and cover seperated from rest of phone.
I am sad because I liked my phone. But then I put my sim card in another phone and realised my photos not there. I totally know this is my own stupid fault, but are they really lost, or is there any way to find them?

Your phone would have come with a USB cable. If you cable it up to your PC, assuming that it isn't too damaged, it may appear in My Computer in the same way as a memory stick. You can then drag and drop the photos onto your PC.

If this doesn't work then its hasta la vista to your photos. Having said that, a carphone warehouse mr Fixit might be able to bring your phone to life long enough dump the photos.

Thanks Pusheed, will give the cable a try. This will teach me to continually download photos. A lesson I keep not learning!

The photos will still be on the old phone. If you can't get them off by connecting a cable, look for an SD card slot. They will probably be on the SD card, so take it out. Lots of modern PCs have card readers built in. If yours doesn't you can buy them or borrow one. Alternatively your local photo shop could probably transfer them to a CD for you, but that would probably cost more than buying a reader.

( Shows total ignorance) Thank you Cruel, what would an SD card slot look like? Where would it be? There is another space under the battery beside the sim card slot, but it is empty. Sorry I am sounding so pathetic!

Sorry for jumping in Cruel but an SD card looks similar in size to your SIM unless you have a micro SD which is about one third the size. It is usually under the battery. From the sounds of it, the empty slot that you see is the SD card slot.

On the other hand flip phones aren't in vogue anymore and the only models that I can think of are budget ones which usually don't have a slot for a SD card.

niceguy2 · 14/03/2012 12:42

What's the model of the phone?

scrablet · 14/03/2012 13:02

MOTO U9. Was a v short lived flip phone, is about 3 years old. The photos must be in there somewhere tho, mustn't they? I could look thru them on my phone, up till yesterday Sad.If they are not on sim, and phone has no SD card, where could they be? Only other electonic bit is battery surely Confused

A quick Google suggests that the U9 has some "onboard" storage. If there's no SD card, it must be in there. Have you tried connecting up the cable and seeing if you can download them that way?

scrablet · 14/03/2012 14:20

Yes Cruel, have connected to PC, but can't go anywhere with it because nothing shows on screen so can't navigate through memory IYSWIM.

So probably,I should take it to a mobile shop and hope they know what to do? I contacted motorolla, but no response. I realise phone is old, but if I could get at least some of photos, would be happy!
ty all for replies, is so frustrating to know photos there somewhere ( on top of breaking my stupid phone!)

Probabky a silly question but you have powered up the phone? (I am assuming that the phone is still functioning at a basic level)

A USB memory stick doesn't require power but in order to see the phone's memory then that phone needs to be on.

scrablet · 14/03/2012 15:34

I can't power it up, or at least I can't see if I am 'cos screen broken so have no idea really if off or on, etc.I have plugged the charger in, but was fully powered before broke. It kind of bleeps every now and then, but no screen activity, so I don't know what bleeps mean!

In that case the mobile shop may be your only chance of recovering your photos. I'm not sure what they can do but it is worth a try.

scrablet · 14/03/2012 16:40

Thanks everyone for input, I really appreciate it.
Will let you know if any joy at shop...x
