i phone -- would you buy in the US?

My mother will be visiting from the US later in the year and am thinking about asking her to get an i phone.

My concerns would be if anything went wrong, and compatibility.

Any advice?

If you get it from an Apple store then you should be ok. There, the phones should be unlocked so you can use them back in the UK. Naturally you'll get a US charger rather than a UK one but nothing you can't replace from eBay.

Check with the staff before she buys but I believe Apple offer a worldwide guarantee but don't hold me to that.

thanks! looked at the link sydney and for some reason it won't let you select the contract free phone for a 4S but will for the 3G which is what I want.

Good idea, niceguy. Will ask my mom to check out the guarantee aspect.

the 3G is $319.00 which per my calculations is about £240.00? The cheapest I've found in the UK not on contract is £320.00. However, am not sure whether the $319.00 is inclusive of state/federal taxes.
