OK I know no-one NEEDS either.. but I have been saving £1 coins in a tin for a long time and finally have enough to seriously consider either of the above.

I have an old iphone.. 3gs..and it still works but has some 'issues' since the last software update it has a noisy nervous breakdown with each text, or notification (the sound goes ON and ON... it's the joke of the staffroom!) It also randomly freezes now and again.. but generally it is limping along.

I have an old but functional macbook but I would love an ipad.., my only reservation is the no flash problem as I like to play scrabble on facebook Blush. The apps version just doesn't cut it for me as I play a lot of people who only use facebook version. I have wondered about a non Apple tablet instead..but then I'm such a longtime mac user I'm scared of windows!!

Is the 4s worth me spending my long saved pennies? (I would buy from Apple not a contract phone) or should I just stick with my 3gs and get an ipad?

Help!!! I keep changing my mind and need the MN jury!

Just get an Android phone like a HTC or a Samsung, I dare say they will probably last longer then 3 years before they start buggering up and besides HTC are far superior (not seen the new Samsung but people say it's great).

My phone is 7 years old and still works fine, my PC still works fine too and is around 7-8 years old, been 3 years since your phone was released I dare say yours isn't 3 years, I find the fact it's buggered up so fast shocking really, I sure as hell wouldn't be buying another product in a hurry from a company who's things fuck up so fast.

Hmmmmn I'd get the phone if I were you. In that your phone sounds a bit defunct. I have a 3GS too but it's still going good, despite being dropped several times, including in the bathBlush. I have an iPad too.....and love it. Dp has a Htc phone and it is pretty good. Shame you can't get bothGrin

Actually mine is 3 years old... :D I know you hate all things Apple Ryoko but as someone who has had a mac for 8 years now (and still working perfectly), I simply would never go back to a pc.

I'm not necessarily averse to a non apple phone, however the fact my 3gs plays up now and again probably has more to do with my treatment of it than its product band. I daresay an android phone would hiccup a bit if it was flushed down the toilet Blush as mine was! It actually went round the u bend...! Not to mention the multiple droppings. My next phone of any make will have a decent case!

I may have a look at the HTC... but it may not cure my desire for an Ipad Grin

It's not that I hate Apple per say it's simply that they are extremely over priced, compared to other products made in the same factories, using the same parts but branded with other names.

What I do hate is people who buy a mac because they don't like PCs (no offence intended) but most people do such a thing purely because of the operating system, both are PCs, exactly the same infrastructure, what you are disliking is the Windows operating system, I've not used Windows since 1998 it's fucking awful, there are plenty of others a PC can use, you don't need to use the one that is loaded as standard.

I do tend to go off on one on Mac vs PC debates because it's all ways really MAC OS vs Windows and that really annoys me.

Despite having been a mac evangelist for years,I agree with Ryoko. Apple stuff these days is really poor- it's just designed to lock you in to a world of their gear, and all the miserable restrictions that come with it. I stopped being a PC doctor many years ago because I was sick of solving problems that shouldn't exist, and now it's exactly the same with Apple- I spend a huge amount of time digging people out of holes they've got into with their iThis or iThat, none of which would happen on Android or Linux. iCloud is the last straw, and I won't be buying any more Macs, at least not for myself.

Android tabs don't use windows! look at the galaxy 10.1 tab.

Well one of the great things about Android tablets is that they come in all shapes and sizes, so it depends on your preference, but the HTC flyer is a pretty good choice (and half the price of an iPad)
