It's a Kindle 4, was a Christmas present. Screen froze on sleep, couldn't wake it up. Tried plugging into laptop, laptop didn't recognise it. Finally, thank heavens, computer worked out what it was and started to charge. I ejected it from the computer (which means it should carry on charging but I should be able to use it) but when I tried to press the power on button it just switched off and now won't start. :-(

Does anyone know what to do, apart from scream at Amazon?

if its really broken, then Amazon will replace it - their customer service is brilliant. Contact them and they will send a new one

Have you tried holding the power button for 15 seconds till it start to flash? Mine froze on an internet screen once and I had to do this 3 maybe 4 times but it did sort itself out

Seems to be sorted now - after looking up all the info on Amazon. Hope it doesn't happen again.

Mine does this every time it gets to halfway through its battery life. The 15 second thing usually works but try charging it until it is fully charged as that always does the trick.

some of the first kindles out had an issue with the battery...ours would not recharge and Amazon were brilliant about replacing it.

But you can reset - hold the power switch across for about 30s then release. Nothing will happen immediatelly but after a while, the system will reset itself and all will be well, as long as the kindle is fully charges.

If your PC can recognise it, I would take a backup of the X: kindle/documents folder (where X is the letter assigned to the kindle....mine is F:) and put it on your PC....especially useful if you have books on there that have NOT come from amazon (eg books from library).
