Cannot 'wake' PC from power saving mode

My desk top PC will not come out of power saving mode. Previously, I could hit a key or move the mouse and the screen would come back but yhat isn't happening now.

I'm puzzled; is this something small or is it a major problem? I have to switch the whole thing off and then on again. That can't be good can it?

I'm hoping someone tech savvy will have an idea.

If it used to work and now it doesn't then I suspect something has been added which is stopping the PC from resuming from power saving.

It could be a new hardware device? Webcam, printer, USB whatever. If you've added something recently, try unplugging it.

Or it could even be software. Have you installed any new programs recently or done any updates?

To be honest it could be practically anything and is a bit like looking for a needle in a haystack if you can't pinpoint what's changed.

niceguy I had a new graphics card about 6 weeks ago - could this be the cause?

If so, I'll ask the bloke in the shop to investigate.

I have spoken to the shop that installed the graphics card. He has talked me through how to stop the PC going into hibernation (as a temporary measure) and will fix it FOC next week!

Thanks niceguy
