Key not working on HP keyboard. What to do to fix it?

My '_' and '-' key seems to be partly stuck on my HP G62 keyboard. It no longer responds when I press on it.

The only way of getting round the problem is to copy and paste the relevant symbols from Word whenever I need these characters.

I have tried pressing hard-ish on the key but it has not resolved the problem.

What would you suggest I do? Should I try to remove the key and then replace it? Any risks of bigger damage if I do that?

Thanks for any advice you can provide!

Well... I think something has been dislodged. The '-' key started working again but the problem moved to the 'p' key.

I can see something like a little piece of metal or plastic and I assume that, as it moves underneath the keys, it affects them.

Shall I attempt to lift a key to retrieve that little piece of plastic/metal?

I wouldn't. Laptop keys are prone to springing off and you can never get the bastards back on

Turn the thing upside down and give it a good shake, you might get lucky. If not, try a handheld vacuum cleaner, if you have one. Failing that, get a can of compressed air, with a nozzle, from PC World or similar, and spray that under the keys affected, which should dislodge the crap.

Thanks to you both. I might have a go at the shake and vac option Smile.

I can imagine that other keys will start going wrong before too long too.
