Problems with iplayer on iphone

Hi, I can no longer watch programmes or listen to radio shows on the iplayer website on my iPhone - the only thing that works is listening to what is playing on the radio now. I used to use it a lot but now when I click the watch the programme I have selected nothing happens.

Can anyone help? I need something to get me through this difficult nights with DS!

TIA

I had this exact same problem last night. Maybe their website is just playing up?

Have you tried uninstalling the app, switching your phone off then on again then reinstalling it? Might work.
Other than that, could it be a bandwidth issue?

mashpot · 29/02/2012 15:44

Petrean I've had the same problem for the last couple of times I've tried it, not just last night unfortunately.

Selks I'm not even using an app Confused just going through the internet. Is there an app I should be using for iplayer? I'm not very good at these things. It would be strange if it was a bandwidth issue as I have watched plenty in the past.
Thanks

mashpot did you solve the problem? Mine has stopped working too now! Sad

Selks · 03/03/2012 01:59

Yes there is an app; you'll find it in the app store. I'm not surprised you're having problems of you're trying to play it via the website. An iPhone does not have the capability for that really.

Petrean · 03/03/2012 08:37

No it's the app as well as the website. Neither will currently work on the iPhone but are both fine on the iPad.

Incidentally the website normally works really well on the iPhone, the app is just a shortcut, the streaming of the television is neither faster nor slower if you use the app. It's all down to your wifi speed.

All I can think of is the BBC have made some slight changes that disagree with the iPhone.

Petrean No I didn't solve it but I am a luddite with these things! I tried to get the app to see if it would help but I need to update my iphone and don't know how to do that. Am resigned to life without iplayer on the phone, v annoying though, loved catching up tv during those middle of the night feeds.

Just found this on an apple forum...

We are currently aware of browser streaming problems affecting iOS 4.2 and below devices including iPhone 3G and 2nd generation iPod Touch. The issue has been escalated to our mobile team and we will publish an announcement on our help site when more information becomes available:

iplayerhelp.external.bbc.co.uk

So the BBC are aware, it is a known problem and they're working on it.

The actual specific link is here...
