Windows Live/Xbox Live help!

I tried to set up an Xbox Live account for DS online last night and managed to b*er it up! It prompted me to enter my Windows Live email which I did, but then (stupidly, it seems) I did it as if I were DS-and entered his DOB which is obviously under 18. It then told me I needed a parent account, so I added another account. However-I couldn't upgrade it to xbox Live Gold as I'd make the main Windows Live account a child's account which it doesn't like. DH spent ages trying to sort it out last night and 2 hours waiting on the live chat thing to talk to a support person who said that there's nothing they can do. They can't change the parent account, they can't close the account so we can start again and that something now has to be disabled for 30 days before we can try again.

DH is now stroppy with me as he spent all evening unsuccessfully trying to sort this out! I made a tired mistake FGS-surely I can't be the first person who has done this-why is it so difficult to sort out!

DS is now upset as we said he cold have Xbox Live as a reward, but can't set it up!

What can I do?? Do I set up another Windows Live account? DH said he didn't want to set up financial things (as you have to pay for Xbox live) coming out of a new email account and wanted it coming out of our normal one (which it now won't let us join with!).

I can't believe it needs to be this complex-please tell me what to do!

If I just ordered an xbox live card for 3 months from Amazon-will that bypass the problem? Presumably not as I'll still need a Windows Live account??

You can get the cards anywhere... Blockbuster, sainsburys etc

Not sure about the account, but it's just a series of numbers you type in. Ask or look on one of the many xbox forums. That's what I tend to do with this kind if thing

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply. I presume you still need a Windows Live account though to use the cards?

I think you need a windows live account.

Just create a new email address and use this as the parent account. Only use this for the Xbox and everything will be fine - I don't understand what your DHs objections are TBH. Finance doesn't come "out of" an email account, it comes off whatever card you use to set it up.

I have several email addresses I use for specific things - helps keep track of who is sending me spam.

DS set this all up on Saturday - I just gave him the address details and then cicked the "authorise" link when it arrived at my non-personal email address.

I have a dedicated email just for Xbox live. DO NOT set up any sort of direct debit/ credit card renewal to pay for it though - it is really difficult and time consuming to cancel it.
Get a prepaid card from Game or somewhere like that so you can control it. (It is much cheaper to buy an annual membership than 4 x 3 months if you can afford it)
